As some of you been able to surmise, I am a fan of all things Gibson. Last year Gibson jumped back in the amp game with the Falcon series. Not sure of all the business details but Mesa amps are involved somehow. I saw them on paper and read about them and was intrigued to say the least. I currently gig regularly with a Gibson Goldtone combo that sounds amazing.
Now it's a year later and I am a year older. The Goldtone weighs in at 38lbs and is getting harder to lift into the vehicle. I actually hurt myself a couple weeks ago at a gig. Pulled something it got better quick but because of it I decided to go another route. I ordered a lite series 1x12 from Mojotone, a Celestion Century speaker, to use with light weight small tube heads.
Then yesterday I had occasion to stop in a GC in Lakeland Fl and they had a couple Falcon models in stock live and in color. OMG, this amp is amazing!!! The detail is impeccable. I picked it up and it seemed much lighter than the Goldtone. I looked up the specs and it is 7lbs lighter which is significant at my age. I did not plug into it because I knew if I did I would be leave there with it. Just when I got the weight issue worked out too. Now I currently have three combos and two heads. I am thinking I could sell at least two of the combos and get the Falcon. Not so much to gig with but to leave in the studio for rehearsal.
I come here asking you guys to talk me out of it.

The Celestion Century I ordered is a Neodymium magnet speaker that weighs in at 4.4 lbs. My cabinet and speaker will weigh in at 27.4 lbs. I should be able to handle that easily.

Neodymium magnets are the strongest magnets on earth per ounce of magnet weight. This leads to better control of speaker cones.tonebender wrote: ↑Wed Apr 23, 2025 5:48 pm The Celestion Century I ordered is a Neodymium magnet speaker that weighs in at 4.4 lbs. After some research my only question is: Which size are you going to buy?
- Sell heads
- Sell combos
- Sell pedals
Buy this amp.
Sorry.

The speaker came in and I installed it last evening. I fired up the rig and put it through the gears. I think I will be very happy. I still have some dialing to do but the drive channel is definitely sweet and usable. The clean channel is, well, Vox, so it sings. Will this keep me from purchasing a Gibson Falcon 20 combo? I think so, at least for now. It may be time to sell those combos that weigh in over 30 lbs. The small head and cab route is much more manageable.
Happy with this for now, I think it is a nice looking rig too.
Vox = 16 lbs
Cabinet = 17.9 lbs
