Do NOT buy one of those without an extended warranty. Even the BMW fan mags say not to nab a modern one without a warranty.
I look at those longingly every once in a while. Then I read things like it how costs $1100 to change out the dash lights and think maybe I'll hold off for a bit....
Dash lights if you're lucky. Timing chain guides and tensioners, intake manifold and valve cover gaskets, cheap rubber o-rings used to seal the water manifolds on some of their V8s, and the ultimate sin, no freakin' dipstick!
That doesn't count their usual foibles, like the cooling systems and the %&*$$ window regulators.
And the problem is, they aren't as good to drive anymore. No reason to take the risk, unless you are looking for a weekend fun car like a 1994 M3.
