I think JB regretted leaning up against a cranked amp, later in life. He had bad tinnitus.

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers were using those when I saw them playing in a club in the northwest Chicago suburbs around 1976/77 promoting their first album release. Needless to say, it was pretty loud in there...
