Just trying to figure this out.
Maybe momo was clueless to think we'd all just roll over and sign up and continue on but even tom knew us well enough to know he wouldn't get more than 10% participation at best. And tons of bad press.
What data was momo going to mine? Our email addresses? He could have just bought those from tom and then out? Continued data mining our phones from the app? Like I said 10% at best.
It could be tom screwed momo ,took the money and ran. If he got an equity stake then that's hilarious about both of them. Is it the continued future ad revenue. I dont think our guitar reviews and pithy comnentary are worth all that much. But if momo is going to a closed board where google wont find it then there isnt even that?

Basically we aren't worth enough to rob. What happened?

I think a lot was based on the way Asia interacts with these social forums, doesn't work that way here. Maybe Tom got layed-off and momo made a offer of a few grand and he took it. Any post by Tom may not even be him.

I think they just grossly overestimated our willingness to comply. I don't know how well Major Dickface could have known us. He never interacted with us, and let the mods run the show. At best, he may have been aware of our sentimentality for the forum, and reckoned that sentiment would compel us to cling to it, no matter what form it took.

Guys, I've been wondering the same thing. I'm no financial whiz, even a cursory glance at my bank accounts will clue you in to that - but I don't see the upside of this for anyone. Again - I'm no corporate bigwig and freely admit my ignorance - but this just seems like a shit storm for no good reason.

And @mozz I've been wondering if they're spoofing Major Tom's online ID. I feel like they probably had him on some sort of contractual obligation to stick around for a month or so to ease their transition, though. I think when we see his name, it's probably the real deal.

Best guess?

The business plan (number 3 or 4 likely, after the first few failed) was to make a new forum/chat/dropbox type app that would attract a lot of users to be data mined, to sell premium subscriptions to, and to sell advertising. This was initially rolled out in early 2019.

As of early 2020, it wasn't really catching on organically. In order to grow, I think they decided to purchase an existing community to quickly boost numbers and daily activity quicker than the same advertising dollars would have. We were the guinea pigs and it turns out this medicine failed the first trials as the MOMO app and web interfaces proved to be lethal even in small doses.

I posted it between 700 and 1000 times through the momo site, they made it super easy to spam one disgusting pic hundreds of times in a few minutes

As someone who worked in corporate America for over 20 years, I can assure you that people running businesses are often complete morons. Lots of fools in high places. Lots of bone-headed decisions.

many times online / marketing oriented businesses will acquire as many properties as possible as their growing portfolio is what lenders and investors look at when assessing financing....in short a pyramid scheme that likely will die out in the next crisis...but various principals Maj Tom, Momo stakeholders, will pocket their piece along the way.

So, as it stands now, Major Tom and MoMo succeeded in stealing and ultimately destroying the original AGF, taking our now stolen profiles and histories

but leaving them with no active forum members and really no hope to grow the user base because we’re all here. They ended up with a dead forum and a ton of animosity directed towards them. On paper, it really couldn’t have gone any worse for them, regardless of what their original business plan was.

You could try emailing from a throwaway email account, it doesn't necessarily have to be the one you used when you opened your initial AGF account...
