It's about 15 degrees (f) here right now, pulling moisture out of the air and necks. Had to start the day filing fret ends. Happy sprout season.

I just wrestled with my team humidifier attached to my furnace, for the second time this year. Did not realize it was out again until we saw there was only 22% humidity inside (27% where I normally store my guitars at 40% to 55%). Turned out to be that the relay which provides the heating element power had burnt an electrical contact clean off.
We are back to 37% to 56% (depending on how long the heater runs). That hot air furnace eats moisture.

We tend to get sprout season some years and some years not. No forced hot air heating of course but AC on pretty much every day and depending on the setting you can really dry out the air too much. But since the guitars are downstairs the AC goes off at night and whatever humidity was removed comes back overnight..so it's kind of like a normal equilibrating effect. When I first got the Maya Strat I had a bit the first couple of years but now I don't really have any issues once the wood has settled in to the environment.
Now for my recipe for roasted brussel sprouts Xmas dinner...which I why I initially clicked on this thread....ha ha h a

Not sure about what sprout season means exactly, if it refers to the veggy or what's the context here, but anyway, since Steve mentions he's having 15°F, I'll only say that, sprout-related or not, I'm having about 70°F at night and early in the morning, and that's pretty close to the limit that it becomes too cold for me.

For me, it means newer (usually cheaper) guitar necks exhibit fret sprout, where the sharp fret ends start poking out a little because the wood of the neck shrunk by losing a little moisture.
70 (f) would be awesome. I miss it.

Oh, ok, I got it.
In that case, I'm not having a sprout season!
