Do you still listen to music on CDs? Simple and random question.

Or do you still have your favorites CDs secure at home, even if you don't play them, just because you don't feel like getting rid of them?

I only have a few, and I don't want to throw them away. I mostly listen to music on my phone - I don't like it, but I don't have a MP3 player since mine died about 3 years ago - or on the laptop when I'm working - and I play MP3 files, the laptop doesn't have an optical drive -. The other thing I do is to search for old live presentations on Youtube. I DO enjoy listening to live music, seeing how my favorite artists or bands perform.

One thing I miss for sure: the inner booklet with the lyrics, record credits and all the info on it (musicians that participated, instruments, studio where it was recorded, dates, etc.). It was a treasure.

...On the other hand, it's been a good while that I have interest in any new band, or old bands putting new material out, that would make interesting to have a booklet. I might like a new song here and there, but it's not that I like the work of the band(s) in question. In that regard I'm living in a time bubble with the old music that I like. LOL

yes, I have it on my hi-fi setup, when I don't want to bother with vinyl, but still want to listen to albums not just songs.

Most of the time I stream music, but I still have all my old CDs. Once in a blue moon I actually play a CD. I don't mind keeping them - they're better quality than MP3s, and by buying the CDs, we buy the license to that music. Without the CDs, we would no longer have that license, and might just end up having to pay something to hear it later. That's how I view subscription services - paying for continued access.

Yes, I still listen to CDs . . . and cassettes, vinyl, 8 tracks, and occasionally reel to reel.

I still buy CD's but I rip them after I get them and store the CD if I ever need to rip again.

My situation is similar. I do have a stack of CDs, but they are just waiting for me to take them to Goodwill.

These days, I pretty much only buy CDs from thrift stores (2nd Ave, Goodwill etc.). I do this to get songs and artists that I like but never had the CD for. Most of these are old, like me, songs, which means that they are often in the thrift stores. ;) Once I obtain a group of new (to me) CDs, I rip the songs that I like to a thumb drive for play in my car. At that point, I'm basically done with the CD. Then I donate the CDs back to a thrift store for someone else to buy.

I love that my car allows me to play mp3s from thumb drives. So I have 5 on which I have saved my music. Each one has music in a specific category: Christmas, Pop (this is pretty broad, and includes R&B, Rock, Disco, Country & Blues), Jazz, Christian and Chill (basically background music). The player in my car of course allows me to choose music on the drive by musician, album title, song title or genre (based on the mp3 tags). But what I typically do is put it on random, because I know I like all of the songs, since I chose them all, and let the car player choose at random. It's like having my own radio station!

Our band's last CD is available on CD. The kids think they are band coasters.

I have two CDs in my car in case I want to listen to those bands without messing with my iPod (yes, I still have one) or phone.

I like buying CDs and ripping them, to play on my computer (studio monitors), stereo (via thumb drive) or phone. I like the physical medium and inserts, as you pointed out.

I appreciate the honesty :)

Interesting answers, and more so if we include cassettes and reels as TMC pointed out...

I intended to answer to each one, but time is not my friend lately LOL

Anyway, I'll just add that two of my many favorites CDs are Journey's Trial by Fire (1996) and Greatest Hits (1988).

I still have a Cd holder with CDs with WIndows XP, Office 2003 and other gems. You never know when you might need to re-install that Desktop PC you threw in the dumpster bin 12 years ago.

I only have a CD player that can connect to my Mac Mini. I'm happy with digital, but I like having a physical copy and not having it controlled by a corporation. So I feel like my answer is sort of yes, but possibly not the use case you imagined.

I went ape on box sets when they were on sale over on AliExpress....car had USB ports so bought a nice portable CD player from Amazon. Also picked up a nice Denon D-A03 system from Facebook Marketplace for the living room. I had been ripping cds and transferring to the flash drive...but did not feel like dealing with the hassle of ripping off dozens of cds and doing the transfer. So far made it through the Deep Purple Box with 4 discs left to go for Judas Priest. Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd, Iron Maiden and 2 Beatles Sets are next.... :D

I believe I still have a WXP cd somewhere in a box as well as other old software. I did save in my PC Microsoft's FURY 3 PC game, I love it, as harsh as it looks! Graphics are horrible, but that game got me hooked LOL!

I still buy CD's in the rare instance that I encounter a new CD worth buying. Most of the people whose work I would buy are now dead, unfortunately. Like most others here, all my CD's have been ripped and copied to thumb drive for use in my cars. IMHO, the best solution to in-car music anyone has ever come up with! :D
