Not for the first time dear old Amazon have sent me secondhand gear.

I was supposed to be setting up my new band saw today and getting started on a cherry and maple triple stand.

Opened the box, there was an extra tape over the top. Might be just making sure it doesn’t pop open I thought. Nope, the manufacturer tape was all cut.

The fence and mitre gauge have been HEAVILY used.

Couldn’t find any real use marks on the actual saw, but as I’ve paid retail, they can have it all back and re-supply!

So instead I’ve had the Sonos booming rock, and sorted out the garage/workshop/hangar.

There isn’t usually huge piles of cardboard, but we have a new puppy coming in a few weeks so we are stockpiling, and there’s a sodding great box with an iffy band saw in it

And you couldn’t see the floor before I started!

Once the weather clears up I’m planning to empty it and resin coat the floor so we can ditch the cardboard flooring!

To my mind Amazon has been a dodgy deal for many years.
Back when Amazon only sold books, my late wife tried singlehandedly to keep them in business.

Then HER credit card started being used for hookers & blow in western Canada.

Our bank informed us that Amazon was using work release inmates handling their credit card transactions.
And those same inmates were selling credit card info to friends outside the prison.
And the bank asked us NOT to put credit card info on file with Amazon.

That was the last time we used Amazon.

It'll be funnier when everyone learns who really created Amazon and why. But, we may still be a few years away from that. Trafficking isn't funny.

I just launched my Amazon account, after reading Mickey's post.. and it loaded in Spanish!

Actually, I have been checking some UK and other foreign versions of Amazon items recently.

EDIT: I got the English version and promptly removed my payment method on file!


Large amount of fake stuff is where I stop as well.

Bummer on the saw, hope they get you a new one soon. Nice work on the garage, sometimes the unexpected consequences of an event can be positive too!

I've had an Amazon account for many years, not sure how long exactly. I've likely placed hundreds of orders and have have very few issues. The Prime membership is a good deal for what you get too IMHO, we utilize the Primve Video, Music and cloud storage in addition to the shipping advantage.

Buy American, wherever possible!

I swear first time I saw this thread I read "Doggy Deals" and skipped over it. Then I see dodgy Deals and also find out there is a puppy involved. Now I am really confrused.

I've never had much issue with stuff sold and shipped by Amazon. Third party sellers aren't worth dealing with anymore. Last year I picked up a Joyo amp head that did not work. Turned it on and it just hummed so I returned it. The seller sent me a pretty rude email about how it worked fine when they tested it. Well either there was a loose tube or it came with a bad cable. Regardless it didn't work at all in the 3-4 hours I messed with it. That was the last third party sellers I purchased from.

A friend of mine down in Tampa Floriduh has a $50,000 Triumph Spitfire.
A friend of his married a girl who had had a Triumph Spitfire in her teens.
He was so taken with her that he had a Spitfire restored to her specifications.
He spent over $50,000 restoring it.
By the time is was finished, she had left him for another guy.


My friend was visiting him & asked "What would you take for it?"
"Whatever you have in your pocket" was the reply.
So that is what he bought it for.

I've never seen a more perfect Spitfire.

Thanks for the quick glimpse of the Spitfire, it is very cool and I love WWII Aircraft, especially the fighters. The Avanti footage was so much fun. I appreciate the share on both aircraft.
