I find myself at an odd position. I have nothing to tweak on my axes. They all now have the same or very similar pickups, all wired parallel for neck buckers, and pending a couple cosmetic changes I'll try (new knobs) I have nothing to change about them any more.

Is the only option left to actually just play them?

In the same boat with the amp setup as well. Have nothing I might need to tweak any more.

Well maybe I could build a simple pedal board...but I just use a volume pedal and a wah and maybe an OD booster. And maybe a tuner. Well that's enough to build a board for I suppose...any other ideas to tinker with?

And no, am not buying new guitars. Got slapped with 1,500 extra tax so no spending on guitars for a bit now.

I have other hobbies too. So when guitar GAS slows, the GAS in one of the others generally picks up.

Buy an old truck or motorcycle to fix up.

Or if you really want to have the gift that keeps giving, pick up a used boat.

As far as guitar GAS though, I think mine has been pretty well satiated. Since I only play at home and only play for my personal amusement, I really have no "need" for anything other than a basic amp or two. I have tried several and ended up with one tube amp ( fender prince and a couple of smaller digital modeling amps ( boss katana/fender mustang ) that do everything I need them to and more. Additionally, I find myself playing acoustic guitars most of the time anyway - much easier to just grab it and play than to plug in and set up the amp/etc. I still do and often play with headphones. As far as guitars go, I've never had a large collection and for the most part have a 1 in/1 out policy - although that's certainly been violated a few times as I currently have 10 total guitars ( 6 electric and 4 acoustic ). Currently my Electric GAS is pretty much non-existent, I've got a Strat, a Tele, an Agile Harm and the rest are LP's so pretty much any sound I want can come from one of those.

About the only other area I still occasionally have GAS pangs is for acoustics. All 3 of my full size acoustics are cutaway dreadnaughts, and the other is a Taylor GS Mini. I'd like to eventually have an OOO or Concert style guitar and lately what i've been researching is Larivee - seems to be kind of a hidden gem of american made, affordable guitars. The D03/L03/D40/L40 series all have a satin finish too which I like, and you can find used ones for pretty decent prices.

But I could very easily "survive" and do it very happily if I never purchased another guitar and just kept what I have.

Yeah, the old hole in the water...

I had a recent severe rash of GAS, 8 guitars in 6 months, but I also sold some gear that more than covered that cost at the same time, so it was a zero sum game of sorts.

I'm probably done for the next few years since I am now going to start saving for a new Bronco and once I have a car payment again my GAS fund will be gone.

I own a bass boat that I bought new in 2014. I haven't had it in the water since 2018.... when my son started playing travel baseball. It's paid off and stored in my parent's barn. Someday I'll dust it off and get to use it again.

Lately, I've gotten into VR gaming and was looking to upgrade my desktop computer, but the GPU market is f0rked right now so holding off on that until things normalize again.

I do sports to counter the music hobby. Ride a bike, jog, hike, ski in winter.
Then there's always beer.

I can't tell you what to do, but I can tell what not to do... and that's troll around the internet looking for something to want. When I don't have GAS, I try not to manufacture any.

I sometimes feel like I'm mostly immune to GAS, since I can build pretty much any guitar or bass that I want (with a few exceptions), so there's not a whole lot of guitars out there that I have a burning desire to buy... That's not much help though, because there ain't no end to the guitars that I want to build. I sometimes fear when I die, they're going to find my body buried under a pile of guitars that all say "Mosstone" on the headstock. :D

I've always had a lot of hobbies, so yeah...I can fill my time no problem.

I just sold off our boat because we seem to be camping/caravaning much more than out on the lake (we already boated around the local lakes for 16 years and we don't fish so we've seen it all)...but we also have an old house so there's always stuff to do.

Only this summer I built a greenhouse and redid the garage plus some other small stuff, and next summer I should finish building a roof for the rest of the terrace and then I have to rebuild maim floor floors completely...and lots of painting and interior work to do and then I'll add a third bathroom upstairs...etc etc..

I've also done shooting and hunting, model building, different sports, cycling, computer games, studio work, painting, other traveling....have been to 13 countries already...and have a 16yr old and his old motorcycle we constantly repair and improve, plus a 11 year old who plays Baseball and we have to help with the sports club events and travel around the country for games all the time.

I alao have the band too and a release in the works and other stuff..and of course work full time as a teacher, about 200 days a year....so I don't have a lack of stuff to do per se.

But I still want to tinker with something music gear it seems.

Well, in short term, I'm gonna build a pedal board for the small number of pedals I use...and in longer term...maybe I'll spend a couple of hundred bux and build me a custom guitar once again...maybe try one of those guitar kits....perhaps over Xmas holidays.

Heck. I dunno. I'm looking forward to geekin' on music stuff again. I just finished a never-ending project that ate up precious practice time.

Well I did burn some energy by wanking over some YouTube backing tracks.

Boss GT-8 into Hotone Purple Wind. Track from tube all rec'd with my phone.

Might not be a real lead player but I do enjoy improvising with mostly pentatonics.

I've 'played' badly for way too many years, and my interest has waxed and waned through the years.

I was talking to another friend in a similar place last year, and he said to me he had heard "If you spend the same amount of time playing as you do looking for new gear to buy you'll probably be a better player"

I'm trying really hard to use that to play more and shop less, although I have major GAS for a PRS Hollowbody II right now, and I've learned more in the last 18 months than at any other time in the past 30 years.

I still want that PRS, but every time it goes into the cart, I look at what I already have that I can't really play to their full potential, and walk away.

And I still have my scratch build unfinished. Hopefully before winter I'll find time to get into the workshop :)

Well, for starters I made myself a pedalboard.

Got a Bacho semihard tool case, and filled it with cut-out foam...easy to make snug holes for pedals, and the thickness is good for them.

Made connection holes in the sides with a soldering iron so as to melt the material so it won't tear.

Leads fit nicely under the foam.

Also applied a lining of black heat glue on the bottom edges, that stuff is really sticky so the whole thing stays exactly in place on the floor.

It's still in the works, but looking good....will only have a Wah, volume pedal and one OD plus probably a tuner.

Only time will tell how will it work in the long run but I think it will be fine and compact- and came to cost me $26. The liner foam is only $7 for a large piece, and there are different thickness ones available and also softer and slightly harder ones...will try to experiment with those I suppose later. Well a classic car would be super nice to tinker with, but I don't have the room or the wallet for it. Anyway the pedalboard is now ready, this is all I need with the band...

These cases come also in a wide and narrow shape which would probably hold a dozen normal pedals. I think this turned out really great, the pedals stay put no matter what, and it's a light easy to use and carry a case.

The OD there may change to a Caline PureSky ie a Tmmy clone. I can't decide whether a distortion or a transparent OD is better for my needs but I'm leaning towards the OD.

Basically I use the volume pedal to chabge between clean and drive, it's set to have a minimum volume even when pressed heel down, and I use the OD to retain a driven sound even when in lower volume when playing backing to solos.Image

Remarkably, my GAS has subsided too. Fortunately, I’ve been able to enjoy all that I have and zero regrets having them all. However, I did get a new motorcycle last year and have been spending a lot of time, and money, on it.
