Worlds Largest Vintage Guitar Collection Ever Stolen

a few days ago. Guy lost 200 guitars many vintage offset.
Some have been recovered at GC, and other shops. He welcomes assistance.

Crazy story on many levels. Perhaps storage units are different ( temperature controlled/guarded? ) in Santa Cruz than here in WI, but how does it come to pass that anyone would have 2 million dollars of vintage gear stored in one?

I see a 1968 les paul goldtop on the list - there can't be more than a small handful of those in existence anywhere as production didn't really resume until 1969. I can't imagine that guitar being kept anywhere besides a vault or under glass in a museum.

Yeah, I'm finding it kind of hard to feel bad for him. I'm sorry he was deprived of his property. Nobody deserves that. But he was kinda asking for it. All the guitars I own don't even come close to the value of just one of his, but I would never store mine in a sketchy storage facility (there were times I've had to think about it). From what it sounds like, I'm guessing the place wasn't even climate controlled, so a lot of them would have probably gotten ruined just from being stored there, exposed to extreme temperature swings. Between that, and the fact that he didn't have insurance (which is utterly baffling to me, just by itself), it tells me that he didn't really care about those guitars. He just needed something to spend his money on.

He explains that he got divorced, all he came out with was his guitar collection, and he travels for work, etc.
IMO, his mistake wasn't using a storage facility, so much, although a facility with good cameras should be no-brainer . The biggest mistake was discontinuing his insurance back in 2012.
He said it was too costly...but so what. Sell a few guitars every year to cover it.
Anyhow, its a story worth knowing about.

Because my homeowners insurance doesn't cover art or collectibles (most don't), I had to get a supplemental policy for my stuff. The annual premium is about 2% of the declared value based on my estimate, no appraisal was necessary. I wasn't that worried about theft as I live in a gated community with security patrols and constant video surveillance, more concerned with one of the hurricanes huffing and puffing and blowing my house down..

My wife only lets me have one guitar at a time, so if mine was stolen...

I'd get a new guitar! Win.
