So I have the usual problem of turning my volume down while playing my Strat.
I dug around and found that a lot of people slip a rubber washer under there, so I tried it (with a hose washer), and it worked... kind of. The main problems were 1) the knob was too hard to turn, and 2) the washer is orange and could be seen clearly under the knob.
So, I dug out a box of grommets (I am the kind of guy who has an assortment of grommets on hand), and found one with an inner diameter about the same as the volume pot shaft. I then cut the grommet in half horizontally, which left a small flange on one side. I then laid the grommet, flat side down, over the pot shaft, and slapped the volume knob back on over top.
Presto, change-o! Problem solved! It's got enough resistance that I don't change it accidentally and enough free movement that I can move it with my pinky.

The downside of using a o-ring, of course, is that I couldn’t find my box of o-rings!
