Spent the day listening to Tool and A Perfect Circle. So, this was an easy inspiration...
Something a little Tool-ish

I like it a lot, but then I think Tool is one of the best bands ever.
I especially like the melodic section - would that be the chorus if there were lyrics? It absolutely left me wanting more.

I have listened to this one a lot. After your reply I understand the sections, and the Chorus is the part that is just killing me. It is all very good - but the Chorus just grabbed me and won't let go.Narsh wrote: ↑Thu Oct 15, 2020 11:33 amThis one went - Intro A Section, B Section, Verse, Pre-Chorus, Chorus, B Section, Verse, Pre-Chorus, Chorus, Bridge-Solo, Solo Outro, Pre-Chorus, Chorus, B Section, fullonshred wrote: ↑Thu Oct 15, 2020 12:57 am I like it a lot, but then I think Tool is one of the best bands ever.

@narsh I am still digging this song, especially the Chorus as mentioned before. I like the Title. Do you mind sharing if there was any particular feel, story, or event you had in mind? Back To Ashes could be spun a lot of ways. If you would rather not, or didn't, that's fine - or you can PM me if you'd rather. All good either way.

Sure man, I'm kinda an open book so...fullonshred wrote: ↑Mon Nov 09, 2020 10:58 pm @narsh I am still digging this song, especially the Chorus as mentioned before. I like the Title. I recently turned 44 and hitting the middle of the road while being in a pandemic has had quite an effect on me. I strongly believe it started when my Mom passed about 6 years ago (still can't remember the date - my mind has put a block on that)and almost drove me insane after we moved to Arizona. But, I think about death A LOT. What's it like? What's on the other side? Will I die alone? Have I done enough? Did I leave a mark? etc. My Faith has played a big part in calming me down a bit, but I think my thoughts show in my tunes, especially when I relate what I'm thinking to the music.
I find that there is a certain, desperation and tension in some of the riffage. Kinda pointed, imperfect, loose if you will. The deliberate use of off/broken beats and removing some of the kick emphasis is some of the measures to have it appear like if the floor fell out from under you for a second is part of it.
Recently I've been trying to not stick to Intro, Verse, Pre-Chorus, Chorus, Verse, Pre-Chorus, Chorus, Bridge, solo, Pre-Chorus, Chorus, Outro format either. You can hear that in "RAIN"
But yeah, this one in particular was part of another slew of desperate, fleeting thoughts about the afterlife. I will say though, that while parts are deliberately modified, this is me sitting down with a guitar in my hand, laying down a beat and improvising section by section, tying them together, weaving that fabric of lunacy that is "NARSH"

Thank you so much for sharing at length the thoughts and motivations behind this. It means a lot to me. Among the things I pondered was whether or not the loss of your mother was at least a part of it, and also the covid mess and the overall state of the world. I also pondered whether there might have been an "end times/apocalypse" feel or thought involved. As I was seeking what this song triggered in me that was one theme I kept coming back to.Narsh wrote: ↑Wed Nov 11, 2020 2:37 pmSure man, I'm kinda an open book so...fullonshred wrote: ↑Mon Nov 09, 2020 10:58 pm @narsh I am still digging this song, especially the Chorus as mentioned before. I love the song - unfortunately the chorus seems to always get stuck as an earworm and often plays in my head as I am trying desperately to get back to sleep. It happens with many other songs at times, usually what I had listened to most recently. As a result I listen to very little music anymore. Certainly play yours much more than any other. I can't help myself when you post up a new one.
