Found my way here via TVvoodoo in another forum. I'm 65 years old. I started playing guitar 53 years ago but took a 20 year break in the middle. I used to be a pretty good player but time has taken it's toll. The break was because I was frustrated with my playing. When I started again I decided I was just going to play for myself and have fun. After a couple of years that got boring so I started going to open bar jams. I found my niche. I like to sit in the back of the mix, playing rhythm, making the song sound better. I usually play acoustic guitar, either a Yamaha LL16M, a Taylor GS-Mini, or a Godin A12. Three years ago I decided I needed to start singing as well as playing. At the same time I started writing songs. Last summer a friend suggested we start a trio. I was leery as playing in a band was why I got frustrated and quite all those years ago. Him and I and a female singer started practicing, me on acoustic, Jim on electric, and Monica singing and occasional acoustic. We finally had a set ready and were going to start looking for gigs when COVID-19 hit. Now no more jams, no more trio, Anyway, this looks like a friendly place Looking forward to meeting everyone.

Welcome to AGF. You MIGHT be the first official NEW member since this all started. I'm not sure about that, though.

Hey Kerry! I spent a lot of time at the Shady Tree, the Watershed and... ugh... even the Grizz! I used to spend a lot of time in the bush beside the Cheakamus up in Paradise Valley.

I'm in much the same boat as you, and have been practicing my acoustic playing and (mostly) my singing. It's a struggle for me... I'm not a natural singer... but I'm making progress, for sure.

Welcome to the madhouse!

Welcome to New AGF!

Hopefully you can reassemble your trio when the COVID thing calms down. My band had a gig lined up in April that obviously got cancelled. Looking forward to getting back out there eventually...

The Watershed just re-opened June 1. The Shady Tree was sold during the COVID-19 shutdown. No one knows what their plans are. It may be torn down for condos. The Grizz went away many years ago. My wife used to do the books for the Grizz. That was before we got together though. Jim the electric guitar player in the trio lives right beside the Cheakamus River.

Climbed the face or hiked up the back? I've hiked it many times. Never climbed it.

Hiked it, why anyone thinks dangling off a rock face on a bit of string is a good idea is well beyond me!

Did the Grouse Grind a couple of times too.
