Hottest week of the year, just before the rains start...and BAM the Master Bedroom AC goes kaboom

It looks like a seal wore out or the compressor cracked and leaked either coolant or oil..looks like oil to me

There is a 10 year warranty on compressor , we are at 6 years now but if it's a seal, likely better just to replace the whole unit now instead of a PIT and costly repair (the units are above an awning which was added AFTER they were installed, not even sure how they can get access to it at this point....oops)

Sorry to hear it. Our HVAC gave up this past October. It was a cool $8800 to replace it. Can't live without it though. The new system is way more efficient. I hope it lasts a long time.

No worries, it's not a central system here as concrete construction has no space for duct work. So the smaller guest room and the living room still have fully functional Split Inverter AC units. Just the hassle and I can't use my upstairs PC with the big monitor when the desk clock thermometer showed 100 F at 8 pm last night

Electrolux tech coming tomorrow to assess the situation, just hoping it's covered under warranty

Ah, Electrolux!!! That word brings back fond memories. My grandfather was an insurance man. He rode around all day with a big leather ledger about 4" thick collecting. life insurance premiums from all the companies clients. Life insurance premiums back then were pocket change per month by today's standards. Literally the premium could be less than $.50 per month. When times were hard for some of the clients he would either float them the money or take produce from the garden or apples from the trees. They all loved him. At the age of 62 he retired and bought what they called a "franchise" with Electrolux. Really it just meant he was a door to door vacuum cleaner salesman. My grandmother was 10 years younger and had worked at a downtown clothing retail store for many years. He bought the franchise in her name and let her retire from retail. He went about visiting all those old clients who were now doing okay for themselves and sold them vacuum cleaners. He had laid the ground for goodwill with them when they were young and struggling. That man sold so many vacuum cleaners they almost had to build a room onto the house for all the trophies. All done in grandma's name to build up her social security for when she retired. Thanks for jogging that memory.

Yeah..it's one of the few old brands that has actually survived and not just sold its name to a Chinese factory. They are still basically a Swedish company listed on the Nordic Stock Exchange, headquartered in Stockholm I think. Generally I have been happy with their stuff, when we bought the AC system, they threw in a microwave and 2 Shower Water Heating Units as a bonus, with the exeception of the most recent AC blow-out , everything still works 100%. Also have a Washing Machine, same brand, works great.

Well, there's good news and bad news. I'll start with the good:

The issue was oil leaking from the compressor itself, and even though only 6 years old, compressor covered by 10 year warranty. When he opened the unit up the bottom of the compressor was essentially rusted away. I guess the constant blazing sun and torrential rainy season was just too much. He said it was unusual after 6 years for that to happen, water may have gotten trapped and not draining properly I guess.

So good news is covered by warranty and only charge will be for service visits (2) and recharge once the new compressor is installed. Roughly $130 buck in total.

The bad news is the new compressor part is on backorder and will take 2 weeks to get in. So Tonite I'm rolling out the memory foam mattress topper onto the sofa bed and making my best of it. Arghh...

Great news, I guess! Could have been worse. Electrolux has always made fine products.

Glad it was an easy fix! I also had to replace all the HVAC in our house last year to the tune of about 7K.

I also know a family that put all their kids through college selling Electrolux Vacuum cleaners back in the day.
